My Approach: Crafting Digital Excellence
The goal was to create a more engaging and approachable donation prompt for Wikipedia, ensuring it resonates with users while maintaining the organization’s credibility and simplicity. My design process focused on creating a clean, user-friendly interface with clear messaging and actionable elements to encourage donations.
Identifying Unique Challenges
The primary challenges were:
Balancing Wikipedia's professional tone with a more inviting and conversational approach.
Making the design visually appealing without overshadowing the message.
Ensuring the donation process remained intuitive and accessible across different user groups.
Resolving Complex Problems
Through research and rapid prototyping, I iteratively refined the layout and content structure:
Adjusted font choices and sizes to improve readability and accessibility.
Introduced a dropdown for donation amounts to simplify user decisions.
Enhanced visual hierarchy to emphasize the key message and call-to-action.
User-Centric Design
The design kept users at the core by focusing on:
Clarity: Ensuring the message was concise and easy to understand.
Emotional connection: Using friendly language and visual cues to make the appeal more personal.
Simplicity: Streamlining the process to reduce friction during the donation journey.
Accessing Information: The users can visually access the information they searched for. The dropdown ensures that at least the first paragraph of the content is immediately visible.
Meeting User Needs
The final design struck a balance between functionality and engagement. While some feedback indicated room for improvement (e.g., font choices), the dropdown feature received positive reviews for its intuitive design. Overall, the solution made donating more approachable while aligning with user expectations and Wikipedia’s mission.
